I looked into the examples that come with the CDISC distribution of the Define-XML 2.0 standard. All "ItemDef" elements with DataType="float" do have "SignificantsDigits" populated, so it looks as your statement "there is no precision provided for float" seems to be incorrect. Or are you referring to something else?
Or did you only look at what is shown in the browser, i.e. the XML transformed into HTML by the stylesheet? That is NOT the define.xml: it is a VIEW on (part of) the define.xml. So, if you really want to see what define.xml is, don't use the display result in the browser - use a tool that displays the source. You can for example use NotePad++ or an XML editor.
If you have no idea what I am taking about, then time to take a Define-XML course from CDISC!
Also remark that "SignificantDigits" is about the number of digits after the decimal point. So the naming "significant" may be a bit confusing.
Also remark that the stylesheet is the sponsor's responsibility, so you can easily change it so that also the number of digits after the decimal point is displayed.

In Define v2.0 specs, it says that for float type, both length and significant digits should be provided. However the examples provided for both SDTM and ADaM, there is no precision provided for float. What are folks doing with this requirement and how?
